World experts on diabetes are on campus today through Saturday for the Global Diabetes Summit — and you can follow along as they discuss new ways to battle the disease and plot research directions for the future.
Here’s a description from the conference site:
This 3-day live symposium will bring together local, national and international experts from all over the world to discuss the latest seminal outcomes in diabetes research and to formulate an interdisciplinary road map for the prevention, detection and treatment of diabetes and common co-morbidities. The emergence of personalized health care and genetic testing, as well as issues relating to the important role ethnicity, age and gender play in the diagnosis, treatment and management of diabetes, will be a central focus.
My colleague Emily Caldwell and others are live blogging and tweeting the event. Follow @EKCaldwell and @OSUWexMed, and check in with the hashtag #GDS12.
I just read Emily’s first blog entry, and was genuinely startled to discover that more than 100 million Americans are diabetic or pre-diabetic. That’s one third of the population!
