Pop Culture Themes Abound in RecSports Fall Classes
RecSports has three words for you: Downton Abbey Yoga.
Don’t like those words? How about Hogwarts Dance Party ZUMBA®? (Okay, that’s four. Nonetheless…)
I know you’ll like these words: No Membership Required.
Some new RecSports classes are open to all faculty, staff, and students—even those without a RecSports membership. In fact, only one class in the list of new offerings requires a membership: a six-week “couch to 5K” course. Other than that, the rest are wide open, some with registration required and door prizes offered.
For example, the “Hunger Games: Catching Fire Fitness Challenge” takes a cue from the hit book series and movies to pit teams of two people against each other on an obstacle course “through tasks such as squat jumps, mountain climbers, bear crawls, and more.” Everyone gets a free archery lesson, and the winners of the fitness challenge get Mockingjay pins. The Downton Abbey Yoga class will feature music and clips from the popular PBS show, while the Hogwarts Dance Party promises to give you a “workout fit for a wizard” and the potential to win a Harry Potter prize.
Heck, I don’t even watch Downton Abbey, and I want to check out Downton Abbey Yoga. And the Hogwarts Dance Party would give me a chance to wear my “Muggle” t-shirt.
