Giant dust clouds in space, such as the Horsehead Nebula (right) in the constellation Orion, hold the chemical seeds of new stars and planetary systems. Astronomers at Ohio State University have found that such clouds contain much more of a formaldehyde-based chemical than can be easily explained. For that study, they measured the amount of the chemical in clouds such as Barnard 68 (left) in the constellation Ophiuchus.
