The
McMurdo Dry Valleys, the largest ice-free area in Antarctica,
is among several test sites targeted by Ohio State University
researchers who will use NASA's Ice, Cloud, and land Elevation
Satellite (ICESat) to map Earth's ice sheets. The researchers
will choose and characterize several sites on the Earth's surface
that NASA will use to calibrate ICESat's instrumentation. Scientists
here hope to determine if the sheets are growing or shrinking.
