Askja crater Lava flow, Iceland

Top left: Askja crater --Volcanic eruptions from the volcano Askja created the small crater Víti (foreground) and large lakes, such as Öskjuvatn (background). Top right: Lava Flow at Krafla 2 -- Lava erupted for nearly 10 years near the caldera Krafla, covering a previous lava flow from the 1700s.

Right:  Askja volcano -- A lava flow from the 1920’s sits along the ridge of Lake Öskjuvatn.

Bottom left:  Askja craters 2 -- Formed by an eruption from Askja in 1875, Lake Öskjuvatn is the deepest lake in Iceland at 735 feet (224 meters).Bottom right:  Lava Flow at Krafla -- Lava flows covering more than 22 miles2 (36 km2) surround the flat-topped mountain Gæsafjöll, in Northern Iceland.
