| These graphics show the amount of instability in Afghanistan and Pakistan since 1991, based on the conflict carrying capacity (CCC) scores. In the CCC (indicated by the red line) higher scores -- those closer to 1.0 -- indicate more stability in the country. Scores under .85 on the graph indicate potenitally serious instability in the country. As the top graph indicates, Afghanistan showed the most instability during the mid-1990s and has become relatively more stable in recent years. Pakistan has been more stable than Afghanistan, but the CCC score dips below .85 several times. The green line in the graphs (FA or Forceful Action) indicates the amount of violent contention occurring in the country. (Higher scores indicate more violence). The FA score is one of the factors that help determine the CCC score. |
